Support Indie Musicians while we are all Social Distancing

The Covid-19 pandemic is having an impact on all of us. Independent musicians are self-employed and dependent on doing shows and selling merchandise for much if not all of their income. For their own safety and the safety of fans and audiences, most venues and artists are canceling in-person shows for at least the rest of the month. That is having a devastating economic impact!

You can help! Many artists are setting up online shows streamed over the internet. I've posted one for tonight on the Windy City Music Calendar with Windy City House Concerts artist Windborne. The event contains links to various ways to support them financially. I will be posting as many shows as I can on the Windy City Music Calendar. Usually, this calendar is aimed at events in the Chicagoland area but for now, most of the events will be virtual and can be attended from anywhere you have an internet connection.

I strongly encourage you to continue to support live music and the wonderful artists we all love. You can attend virtual concerts and contribute through whatever method each site presents. You can also purchase merchandise from artists. And if you have artists you want to support on an ongoing basis, see if they are on PatreonPatreon is set up to allow fans to subscribe to artists' postings of their work for a monthly fee. Most artists have tiers of support ranging from getting a single song per month to larger amounts of creative output and connection with the artist.

Besides the listings on Windy City Music Calendar, a couple of sites have been set up on Facebook to connect fans to virtual concerts.
